The New Colossus, Emma Lazarus Poem, Statue of Liberty Poem, Calligraphy Art, Giclee Print
Written by Emma Lazarus in 1883, The New Colossus is a celebration of the welcome and hope that the Statue of Liberty represents to immigrants seeking a new life on America's shores. I love this poem because it reminds me of the welcome and promise that my ancestors found in this country and gives me hope that these great qualities lie at the heart of what it truly means to be American. Millions of souls have found hope and a new life in this land, and I believe that they will continue to do so and America will once again be the welcoming beacon to the world.
The poem reads:
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
I penned the original text in a bronze shimmer ink and painstakingly added drops of blue green pigment to each stroke as it dried to represent the natural corrosion that takes place when copper is exposed to the elements. This mirrors the patina that has developed on the copper skin the Statue of Liberty over the years.
The background was given a marble-like watercolor wash to represent the solid foundations of American hope and justice.
Original measures 16in x 20in

When it comes to the world of art reproduction not all prints are created equal. You truly do get what you pay for. Here is what you get when you order a print from my shop.
The Company
I do all my printing through a professional print company that specializes in giclee fine art reproductions; in fact it is all they do.
What is a Giclee Print?
Giclee is a special blend of science and art that is perfectly suited for delicate printing jobs where color accuracy and attention to detail are crucial. Prints are usually produced one at a time, as the process is painstakingly slow. Compare this to other printing styles such as lithography, which are mass-produced on high-speed presses.
The inks
The inks are archival grade and fade resistant. The advanced color management technology used in the print process allows for a large color range so that every print has vibrant true-to-life colors. (Sometimes they even look nicer than the originals!) With the proper care your print will stay bright and beautiful for generations.
The Paper
Giclee printers are able to handle thicker papers than traditional printers. This ability opens up a wide variety of lovely papers to choose from such as heavy weight watercolor paper, or even canvas. The paper I have chosen for most of my works is a nice balance of quality and affordability. It is an acid free, archival quality, heavy weight (230 g, 9.5-mil) paper with a smooth matte surface.
***Most of my art is completely customizable. Convo me if you are interested in having a print made on a different type of paper***
