Italian hand is my Other Great Love (Shh! Don’t tell Spencerian!) I often combine elements of the two in my work. Italian hand exudes old world romance and is a wonderful script for weddings. With it’s slightly irregular “blob” shades, it is a bit more casual and whimsical than Spencerian or Copperplate. Italian hand looks equally good in both it’s flourished and unflourished forms. You can write this script as complicated or as simple as you want making this a great script for both hobbyists and serious calligraphers.
In this class we will cover: Movement drills for smooth letterforms Lowercase letters Uppercase letters My favorite letter variations Intro to flourishing your letters
Please note, this is not an historical exploration of this script. This is my own style that I have developed based on the things I learned from other calligraphers like Heather Held and Dào Huy Hoàng as well as historical examples from many different time frames and countries in Europe. I am not trying to be accurate to any particular historical script or letter form. This is my take on Italian Hand. Relaxing the rules makes if super fun to write and it is a favorite among my clients.
The goal of this class is to give you the tools to make your own beautiful and creative style based on historical script but with your unique twist.
